I lived for five years in the Netherlands and had an amazing time and still have a couple of amazing friends living there.
I agree with other people saying that Dutch people are very friendly and helpful. But, yes there is a but, there was a certain shalowness (not sure if I am using the right word here). It was easy to have a chat with someone, but it was really really hard to become proper friends with Dutch people. This was something that some other expats I knew experienced as well. I didn’t really have many proper Dutch friends. Many other expats or Dutch people that liked hanging out with expats.
This surprised me a lot, given this general view that most people seem to have.
