You should ideally be fine with either visa or Mastercard. But a lot of places don’t accept either. I made a point to just carry some cash, enough for 3-4 weeks; which is usually how long it may take to open a local Dutch bank account (I hear ING is super-fast) but, ABN lets you open without a BSN.
Emergency amount should be around 500 euros, I carried 1200 because I wanted to be overprepared.
Carry Niyo global as well which works as forex card with less charge.
