How recently should a document be apostilled for the 1st registration at any municipality in NL? I called the Amsterdam municipality, and they said it doesn’t state how recently it should have been legalised/apostilled, so even an old one should be fine. I am not sure if the case is different with each municipality. I have one with me that was apostilled more than a year ago.

  1. It entirely depends on which municipality you are registering. When I went for registration, the lady officer told me to bring a maximum one-year-old birth certificate. Some of my friends didn’t face this in other municipalities, so if you are unsure, make sure to have a certificate up to 6 months old.

  2. It’s mandatory in some municipalities. The requirement is that the apostilled document should not be more than 6 months old.
