King’s Day is a significant Dutch national holiday commemorating the King’s birthday, typically observed on the 27th of April. However, if the 27th of April falls on a Sunday, King’s Day is celebrated on the preceding day. In the past, when the holiday was known as Queen’s Day, it honored the birthdays of Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Juliana, which fell on the 31st of August and the 30th of April, respectively. Nevertheless, Queen Beatrix decided to shift the celebration of Queen’s Day from her birthday on the 31st of January to the 30th of April, the birthday of her mother, Queen Juliana.
